Hi, I’m Albert Steed, president, and owner of Remote Work Made Simple. And I would like to talk about why having a proper remote work solution is important to you as a business owner and what is the one best benefit you can get out of having a remote solution.
So, I have story to tell.
My family has been homeschooling our children for their entire school career. My oldest is now 13 years old. In 2019 my wife was at her wits’ end and she just couldn’t continue to extend the amount of energy she had to extend for homeschooling, and it was just running on fumes. And so we decided to put the kids into a school system. Well, everybody knows the end of this story, at least this part of the end, where the kids promptly came home in the early part of 2020.
So, the kids were back home and it took about two weeks for us to realize that that was just not going to work, that we’ve already been down this road.
I was able to make a couple of changes in my life that having a solid remote team, remote work solution facilitated. I was able to drop down two days of my work week to be home to teach the kids. And then my wife was able to then be out of the house and get some downtime.
Where this story really starts to get interesting is, we live in Northern Michigan and the winters are long and they’re dark and they’re dreary… You’re seeing it here on an August day, it’s almost 90 degrees out. This is not the norm for our time here in Michigan, fairly normal for August—but not January, February, March, and April.
I was able to rent a house in Florida and we were able to travel down there and spend the months of January, February, March, April of 2021 in Florida. So this meant that we were exercising, we were outside a lot more, we were getting a lot more sunlight. The children had access to pools and outdoor activities that kept them out of the house during those long winter months.
And I was able to remotely run my business.
The brutal truth is that the four months I was gone were the best four months we’ve ever had from a revenue perspective.
I had the most productive four months I’ve ever had.
So when we talk about what is the biggest benefit, I think it’s the freedom. It’s the freedom to do the things you need to do for your business and your family and your employees. When you have that remote work solution in place and it works and it does the things that you could normally do in the business and it does them as well or better than you could do them in the business, you then have the freedom to do all kinds of stuff. So again, I think that remote work solutions aren’t just important for your employees or your business, but it can be very important for you as the owner.
That’s why you need to have a proper remote work solution, so you can gain that freedom.
